Yeezy Season 8 was ostensibly a fashion show for Kanye West to show his latest collection of garments made for the citizens of Tatooine. But it will forever be remembered as the worldwide debut of North West, the rapper. After the final Yeezy models trickled off stage, and the soundtrack of car horn honks faded out, North swaggered out onto the stage backed by a drum machine and pre-recorded whoops.
Her verses are as a useful descriptor for her own outfit. “What are those?” she rapped. “These are clothes.” About those clothes: North is wearing an advanced layering system replete with a purple puffer short-sleeve jacket over a long-sleeve fuzzy maybe-fleece gray shirt. And what are those? Big jet-puffed boots as substantial as horse hooves. Half the battle of wearing a Big Fit is confidence, which North displayed in spades while on stage. “Cool, cute, cool, yay!” the, uh, chorus (?) went. “This is my style, yay!” Hell yeah it is.
Many young kids dream up cute performances to hold for family and friends—but many young kids cannot claim Kanye West and Kim Kardashian as their parents. So, North got to premiere her very first single and, more importantly, her very first Big Fit of the Day to a global audience.
